DESCRIPTION:Presentation :  5:30-6:00pm  \n Wetlands in Transition: Past\, Present\, and Future  \nCoastal wetlands in Virginia are dynamic landscapes shaped by both nature and human influence. This session dives into the evolving relationship between people and these vital ecosystems—from early perceptions to modern-day challenges. Discover the shifting tides of environmental policy\, land use\, and climate impacts as we explore the obstacles to conservation and the bold opportunities for sustaining these rich\, resilient habitats. \n Response Art Making: 6:00 – 6:50pm  \nDr. Mary Roberts\, Art Therapist\, LPC\, ATR-BC\, licensed professional counselor and board-certified art therapist will facilitate eco-art making in the environment of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens grounds. Participants will be encouraged to use natural and other provided art materials to develop an artistic response to the topic\, content\, or personal experiences with wetlands in transition. \n Discussion: 6:50pm – 7:25pm  \nAfter artmaking\, Dr. Mary Roberts\, Art Therapist\, LPC\, ATR-BC will facilitate a discussion about the artworks to hear the experiences of participants. \n Closing & Adjourn: 7:25pm  \nDr. Mary Roberts\, Art Therapist\, LPC\, ATR-BC will facilitate a group closing to adjourn the evening. Visual Conversations: Art\, Ecology Healing  \nBrendan Baylor\, artist will respond to the expressions\, voices\, and experiences of the participants’ artworks and testimonials in formalized art which will be displayed and experiences in “Soundings”. Soundings is an art installation on display at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens through early September. Free workshop. Registration required. Taking place in the Administration Building. Register Online Ian Blair biography –  \nIan T Blair\, AICP\, CFM\, is the Policy Program Director at Wetlands Watch\, where he specializes in implementing rolling easements and other innovative adaptation tools to tackle climate change. Before joining Wetlands Watch\, Ian worked as a Regional Flood Planner with the Texas Water Development Board\, overseeing state and regional flood planning initiatives. Ian is a two-time Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Ukraine and Georgia) and AmeriCorps State alum. He holds a Master’s degree in Regional Planning from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College.
