SUMMARY:Ecological Repair
DESCRIPTION:Presentation :  10:00-10:30am  \n Ecological Repair  \nArt education scholar and artist Veronica Hicks will present the needs for ecological repair in our communities to include the historical significance of indigenous and non-native plants\, invasive species\, and the curated environment. \n Response Art Making: 10:30 – 11:20am  \nDr. Mary Roberts\, Art Therapist\, LPC\, ATR-BC\, licensed professional counselor and board-certified art therapist will facilitate eco-art making in the environment of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens grounds. Veronica Hicks\, PhD\, will assist to facilitate nature-based art practices for ecological restoration and collective healing. Participants will be encouraged to use natural and other provided art materials to develop an artistic response to the topic\, content\, or personal experiences with climate change and ecological repair. \n Discussion: 11:20am – 11:55am  \nAfter artmaking\, Dr. Mary Roberts\, Art Therapist\, LPC\, ATR-BC will facilitate a discussion about the artworks to hear the experiences of participants. Veronica Hicks will share in the discussion the role of nature-based art practices for ecological repair and connection. \n Closing & Adjourn: 11:55am  \nDr. Mary Roberts\, Art Therapist\, LPC\, ATR-BC will facilitate a group closing to adjourn the evening. Visual Conversations: Art\, Ecology Healing  \nBrendan Baylor\, artist will respond to the expressions\, voices\, and experiences of the participants’ artworks and testimonials in formalized art which will be displayed and experiences in “Soundings”. Soundings is an art installation on display at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens through early September. Free workshop. Registration required. Taking place in the Administration Building. Register Online Veronica Hicks biography –  \nVeronica Hicks\, PhD\, is an art education scholar and artist whose work bridges art\, education\, and creative practice. Dr. Hicks engages with communities to foster ecological repair due to challenges in our environment. A basket weaver and textile artist\, she works with natural dyes\, many of which she grows and harvests herself\, to create richly hued\, sustainable artworks that honor tradition\, resilience\, and healing.
