SUMMARY:Into the Woods Adventure Day
DESCRIPTION:Bring your Cub Scouts\, Webelos\, and Arrow of Light Scouts to NBG to earn the Into the Woods Adventure Pin ! This program includes self-guided and guided activities and an Into the Woods pin for each participating Scout and daytime Garden admission. \nIndividual Scouts\, Packs\, and Dens are able to sign up for Session 1 (11AM-12:30PM) \, or Session 2 (2-3:30PM) . All programs require adults to attend the programs and assist Scouts with the program activities. \n Note About Drop-Offs: We ask all troops do their best to carpool to the Garden\, and to refrain from encouraging parents to drop off/pick up their scouts. Scouts under the age of 14 must have an adult chaperone with them at all times. Parents dropping off Scouts are not permitted to park in the Tram Circle in front of the Visitor Center. It is recommended that vehicles are parked in the main lot\, and a chaperone escorts their Scout to the troop leader. In the event Scouts are dropped off\, it is the responsibility of the troop leader to ensure those scouts get checked in with a responsible adult in the group. Garden staff will not assist with this process. In addition\, parents dropping off or picking up a child are not permitted to stay in the Garden . While they may drop their child off free of charge\, parents who plan to stay will either have to use their membership to enter the Garden\, pay the chaperone fee for the program\, or pay Garden admission at the Front Desk. Please let us know if you have any questions about this. NOTE: The Garden closes at 5PM. Scouts dropped off will be required to be picked up before this time. Scouts:  $18/Scout.    \n Garden Member Discounts:  NBG Members are required to register all Scout and adult chaperones attending the event. There is no discount for Scout tickets. NBG Member Adults are asked to register their free chaperone tickets for head count purposes. \n Not-Yet-Members  are required to purchase tickets for all attending Scouts and adult chaperones. Scout Leaders who are not members of the Garden are required to purchase adult tickets. \nOnly registered Scouts will receive the program supplies and badges. \n If sibling tag-alongs attend\, NBG Members are required to register adult tickets for the children. There will be light refreshments and a chance to hear from the director following the film.  Register Here\n A Love Story of Land and Family \nIn 1920\, there were over 920\,000 Black families farming in the United States\, although the majority were sharecroppers and tenant farmers. Today there are just over 48\,697\, a 95% decrease in 100 years. Black farming families have lost their land and their stories are quickly disappearing and should be preserved so that we may understand the history and nature of lives on the farms. The goal of this documentary is to preserve their stories and honor their lives and agrarian legacies.  \n DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT \nI am Gail Myers\, a cultural anthropologist and creator of the film project\, Rhythms of the Land. In 1997\, while pursuing my doctorate at The Ohio State University\, I conducted my first interviews with African American farmers. For the last 23 years I have been interviewing\, researching\, writing about\, and filming the stories of African American farmers. \nRhythms of the Land documentary fills the void of these missing agrarian narratives and honors these sharecroppers\, farmers\, and gardeners. \n We want to thank Bank of America for being our sponsor and the Chesapeake – Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter of DELTA Sigma Theta Sorority\, Inc. for being a community partner.
