Nature journaling helps children learn to better observe nature\, and allows them to record their interactions in creative ways. We will meet on June 4 in the WOW Children’s Garden for onsite instruction.  \n Registrants for our Summer program also receive seven lessons in Google classroom that will include instructional videos and lesson plans. Lesson locations will be at NBG\, but can be completed at home or anywhere nature is found. Caregivers are also invited to learn to journal with younger club members. Registration includes a messenger tote\, paper journal\, and 6 double-sided colored pencils. DESCRIPTION:Become a Backyard Bird Bud!  \n Who can be a member? Nature-loving kids ages 4-12.    \n What does registration include? Each club member receives a starter kit with a bird friendly plant and a birdwatching activity. Registration and starter kits are free for each club member; however\, they do not include admission to the Garden for non-members to pick up kits or participate in onsite activities.    \n What do club members do? Backyard Bird Buds will use their flowers to invite birds to their yards\, porches\, or other outdoor spaces and record what they see throughout the summer. Each month they will receive an e-newsletter to learn about new digital NBG Nature Quests\, WOW Children’s Garden Bird Blitz opportunities\, and additional content that will help them connect with the birds that call Hampton Roads home.  \n How do I register and pick up my plant ?   Visit the WOW Children’s Garden (NBG Admission required) June 4\, 2022 to pick up a rudbeckia plant and information on family-guided activities you can do to be a Bird Bud. \n Participation in activities at the Garden is not required to be a Backyard Bird Bud and the newsletter will include many offsite suggestions.    \n Backyard Bird Buds is made possible by the Julian Hady Gary and Margaret Savage Gary Fund of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation\n Program Registration Information: \n NBG Admission is not included with Backyard Bird Buds programs\, and attendance is not required at monthly Bird Blitzes to participate in the program. \n Registrants will receive emails throughout the summer with educational opportunities and information Backyard Bird Buds related programs.

Unregistered guests are welcome to purchase walk-up Garden admission tickets to enjoy the Garden and have access to the Plant Sale; however\, they will not be permitted to participate in the Homeschool Day activities. \nWe have partnered with our friends at the Home Educators Association of Virginia to celebrate Earth Day\, everyday! Visit the Garden on Earth Day to complete guided and self-guided activities relating to pollution\, water conservation\, ways to reduce your carbon footprint\, and more! Recommended for children ages 3+ with significant chaperone participation. Each registered child will receive an activity kit with materials to complete the included/recommended activities. Families that do not participate in homeschool are also welcome to participate!  \nParticipants are required to check-in anytime between 10AM-4PM. The last guided program will start at 4:30PM. The Garden is open until 7PM\, so you’ll have plenty of time to get through everything!\n HOMESCHOOL DAY IS RAIN OR SHINE. \n Price for NBG Members:  $8/child for ages 3-17*\, Free for NBG Member adults. *Children 2 and under do not require a ticket; however\, if they wish to receive the program materials\, a ticket must be purchased.  \n Price for Not-yet Members: $12/child and $10/adult. *Children ages 3-17 and all adults require a purchased ticket.
